1987 Honda GL1200A Goldwing Aspencade
Up for sale is a clean, great riding 1987 Honda GL1200A Goldwing Aspencade motorcycle in black. This motorcycle has obviously been well maintained and cared for throughout its life. It is equipped with Honda's legendary liquid-cooled flat four engine, adjustable air suspension with on-board compressor and standard Honda sound system. As you can see from the pictures, it looks great, best of all, it is ready to ride anywhere there is a paved road.
It is also equipped with Honda's standard Aspencade sound system which provides good sound quality for the rider. The sound system includes an AM/FM receiver and cassette player, both of which work great. The bike also sports a rider backrest which is not pictured in the listing. The standard seat has been replaced with a high-quality Travelcade aftermarket item as is very comfortable on a long trip.
Although this is not a new motorcycle, it is in very good mechanical condition, and seems to need nothing but a new rider and a good home. It runs strong and shifts smoothly. It pulls with authority throughout the power band, while at the same time rewarding the rider with a very smooth and quiet ride. All of the suspension components work well, including the on-board compressor. The tires are in good shape: they should be fine for at least another year of riding. . All of the standard lights, controls, and instruments work as they should, with the exception of the electronic cruise control which is currently not functional. It has been replaced with a throttle lock, which does the job. There are no leaks apparent anywhere on the bike.
The bike starts easily and runs well. It charges well, and has a new battery. The brakes work well and pull the big bike down smoothly.
Mechanically, the only negative I can think of is that the bike smokes lightly when first started after sitting overnight on the sidestand. Once again, if you are familiar with this model, you know that this is a common condition and is attributable to the valve seals allowing a small amount of oil into the combustion chamber when the bike is at rest. This smoking stops completely long before the bike is up to temperature and can be completely avoided by parking the bike on the center stand.
This is a very nice motorcycle and has a great many miles left in it. With less than 80,000 original miles, this Goldwing is just getting going! It is a special motorcycle that stand out anywhere It represents a lot of value for a relatively small amount of money.
